Inland Draft & Teamsters Association Our club has been around in one form or another for at least 25 years. It is one of 3 Member clubs in B.C. under an umbrella organization called Draft Horse and Mule Association of B.C. We have approx. 40 members from all over southern BC who love horses and an outdoor/farming/ranching way of life. In total our members have approx. 15 teams consisting of Percherons, Belgians, Clydesdales, Fjords and Mules and some light horses as well. Our club has had access to approx. 10 acres of dry grassland near Knutsford where we have hosted a number of activities. The last weekend of April we host Spring Field Days where we hold a competitive plow with teams coming from various parts of B.C. We have been hosting a plowing match for approximately the last 10 years. This year we moved to new surroundings. The City of Kamloops has purchased a large acreage between the Yellowhead Hwy (Hwy 5) and the North Thompson River near Rayleigh, just north of Kamloops, and wants the ranching/farming/agricultural community to have a large presence there. Our club was invited hold our competitive plow there on Apr 24th, 2010. We will probably have access to 4 acres of river bottom land in the future. After the plowing match we traditionally disc, harrow and seed the field with a grain crop (using club and privately owned horse drawn equipment). Hoping for good germination and growing conditions, we set aside 2 weekends in September/October (depending on the weather), 1 weekend for cutting, binding and stooking our grain and the second weekend for bringing in our crop with a team and wagon and hosting an old fashioned threshing bee. We sell the grain and straw to raise monies for the club. One of our club projects has been to build quite a large implement shed on our Knutsford site to store a lot of our old equipment. Our club also hosts and/or participates in a number of other events such as other plowing competitions, driving competitions, horse pulls, clinics, fall fairs, fun days and our annual horse and wagon/cart campout over a 3 day weekend during the summer. Some members make all or part of their living with their horses (horse logging, sleigh rides, wagon rides as well as hauling gear in remote places) while the rest just do it for fun and the social activities that go along with it. It costs $10/yr to join our club. We also request that anybody handling horses purchase Horse Council BC insurance to give protection financially in case of accident. Our club also purchases insurance so we can hold events. We have meetings the first Thursday of every month, at 7:30 pm, in the meeting room upstairs at Duffy’s Pub in Kamloops. Dennis Ryan is our club president so he should be our contact person. His contact information is Comp B2, Legion Site , Westwold, BC V0E 3B0 (250) 375-2425. doubletreefarms@hotmail.com

The Wild Rose Draft Horse Association is an advocacy group, which speaks with a unified voice for Alberta’s Draft Horse Industry. Since that time the Association has become directly responsible for such worthwhile events as the Annual Olds Draft Horse Sale, the Alberta Draft Horse Improvement and 4-H Draft Horse Events. We are also major sponsors of such worthwhile events as the Calgary Stampede, the World Percheron Congress, Irricanna Pioneer Acres as well as most Alberta Draft Horse Shows. The Southwest Harness and Driving Club  Ten years ago we formed the South West Harness and Driving Club – The club is a great way to get together and meet great friends. In February we get together and show films, have a visit and a potluck supper. We have an annual meeting and people suggest what they would like to do at our events. We hope to have a spring planting, summer haying and a fall threshing bee. We do everything at the events, from wagon rides, plowing, discing, and seeding. Having these events depends on the weather conditions. Don Dolgolpol Box 191 Consul, SK S0N 0P0 306-299-4471
